Real science for non-scientists: gamers map human proteins in Project Discovery

Gamers are contributing to real science gains by mapping human proteins in Project Discovery.  In a similar manner to The Human Genome Project, Project Discovery is hoping to unlock some of the secrets of the human body by mapping its complex and very numerous proteins. The outcome of the project is likely to provide solutions to some of the human species' nastier protein-related diseases and disorders.

When the article was written, gamers had contributed the equivilent of 163 working years worth of analysis on the project. It doesnt take an expert to realise that at that rate, the scientists at the helm of the project might be making some important discoveries a little sooner than they had expected. Pretty awesome we think.
